Michael's journey with his 1997 Nissan S14 200SX is a testament to the power of passion and dedication in the automotive world. Growing up in a family of car enthusiasts, Michael's love for the Nissan Silvia was nurtured from an early age. This car, a true icon in the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) scene, has become a symbol of his automotive dreams.
The build began with a personal connection to the car's heritage. Michael's first major project was a Nissan Navara, a mini-truck with a JDM-inspired style and an SR20 engine swap, a collaboration with his father, Joe, during his apprenticeship as a mechanic. This early experience laid the foundation for his future endeavors.
The S14, a rare find with a smashed-in rear quarter, presented a new challenge. Michael envisioned a car that embodied the spirit of the mid-2000s, a unique take on an OEM+ restoration. Over two years, he meticulously sourced new panels, trim, and accessories from Abz at Total Nissan in WA, ensuring every detail was perfect.
The transformation was remarkable. By Christmas 2024, the car was stripped down, ready for a complete makeover. With the Black Label Invitational Volume 6 event in February as the deadline, Michael and his team worked tirelessly. The result? A stunning, fully restored S14 that secured a Top 10 spot at the prestigious event.
Under the hood, an SR20 engine roars with power. The Garrett 3036 turbo, 6boost manifold, Plazmaman Pro Series intercooler, and 1600cc injectors deliver an impressive 362rwkW (485hp) at 26psi on E85. Haltech Elite 1500 controls the engine's performance, and Steve at Auto Tech Wiring tunes it to perfection.
The drivetrain is equally impressive. A Nissan Z32 five-speed manual transmission, equipped with an Xtreme twin-plate clutch, is paired with a KAAZ two-way diff. The car's suspension features extended lower control arms, modified knuckles, and a GKTech power brace and strut bar, ensuring precision handling.
Aesthetically, the car is a sight to behold. Repainted in its original Deep Fuschia Pearl color, it showcases the craftsmanship of Glasurit and Achillo Pacillo, who worked with Michael's family business, Silver's Motor Body Repairs. The original 2003 bronze Rays Nismo LMGT4 wheels add to the car's iconic appeal.
